FLORAL CITY HERITAGE DAYS

Floral City LuminariesThe pride of the community is reflected in the annual presentation of Floral City Heritage Days presented the first Saturday of December and the preceding Friday night. The Friday, "Candles 'N' Carols" is held from 5:30 -9:00 p.m. and features an old fashion fish fry, horse-drawn wagon rides and hundreds of luminaries (sacks with sand and candles) that line either side of the closed-off Avenue under the century old canopy of oak trees. Carolers and musicians serenade those who stroll the avenue to view the Giant Christmas Cards and decorated historic homes.

The first Saturday of December is "Floral City Folk Day" which showcases local heritage during the phosphate boom period from 1890-1910. This is a costumed event as the town recalls its past with the self-guided tour of historic homes, demonstrations of early Florida's daily living activities, exhibits in Heritage Museum, Florida acoustic music on two stages and down-home country foods under the old pavilion. Many other activities complete the day.
